The development of an International Society of Hair Transplant Surgeons that recognizes the important contribution of the hair transplant technical assistant, is indeed an exciting concept. Those of us practicing in the field recognized long ago that although the surgical skills and techniques utilized in hair transplantation surgery are often viewed as rudimentary, high quality results require the physician have an artist’s dedication to detail for duplication of nature.

The tedious nature of these surgeries has demanded that practitioners develop a staff of hair transplant technicians, that are just as skilled in the specific art of assisting in hair replacement surgery as the surgeon is in sculpting the patient’s goal. It is time we recognize these valuable members of our team, and utilize their interactions with each other as a source for ideas to improve the quality of services to our patients.

I applaud the concept, and look forward to supporting and participating in such an organization.

Respectfully submitted, Puig Medical Group
